maxtor external hard drive

here's the problem my drive has died on me,tried quite a lot of things to no does not make any noise when i start it up.does'nt even register on my pc,here are some specs:- barracuda 7200.10,320 gb,seagate,ultra sata,tried seagate web site ,could'nt help,any help would be greatly appreciated as i only just put photo's on it .and i would like to get them back

If not powering up then first check fuse in plug to drives power supply.

If power supply Ok try in another machine.

Drive can be removed from case and connected into another case or direct to a spare sata point in your PC (Not Laptop)

thanks guys for replying fruit bat i'v done what you said but to no avail,and lotvic no the green light did'nt come on ,i'v trawled through a heck of a lot of forums and i'm sure i'v exhausted every avenue. looks like major surgery needed most probably have to send it to a specialist "this is going to hurt"money wise. thanks again guys

If the power supply or case electronics have failed then the drive will not work.

However the drive can be removed from its case and placed into another case. these cases are quite cheap.

Or connect the drive direct to the motherboard in your PC all you need is a cheap cable. see here

hi fruitbat,any ideas where i could get another case.or will i have to buy a new maxtor ,take out the new drive then connect my drive to the power board?
