Now I've decided to upgrade to XP I can increase my machine's memory.

I have a Gigabyte GA7-DXR mobo which has three slots for PC2100 DDR Ram. I currently have two 256mb modules of Ram. What I want to know is whether you can have any combination of mb installed or do they have to be identical? I.e. could I simply add a 512mb module to double my overall memory?

You can mix the amount, but stay with the same type of memory. Go to this site, and use the configuration, type in the make and model of your board, and you will find which memory to use.
