Mandriva install query

I have downloaded Mandriva to install alongside Windows and have been advised it will over install windows unless I partition first.
I have XP installed along with the following information....
1.80 gigahertz AMD Sempron
128 kilobyte primary memory cache
128 kilobyte secondary memory cache
80.02 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
63.43 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space

Is it required to partition ?
Or should Mandriva partition as I install it ?

Well I would always partition first using Gparted live CD, but I've never used the Mandriva distro.

I was under the impression that Mandriva partitioned during install especially for muppets like me

You have the choice on install to use the full drive or a partition what you choose is up to you.

Thank you, that is what I thought.
I was told differently, over riding what I had researched.
Thanks again
