Making a monitor brighter

I think I rememeber a reference in PC Advisor Helpline to something on a cover disk that would make the monitor brighter. My laptop monitor would be easier to use if it were brighter, so I would like to try such a program....but I can't find it.Does anyone remember this? During the last 6 months is the closest I can get to the date on which I read about it.

i have a laptop, and it has a fn key next to ctrl, when i press and hold it and press f6 or f7, i can lower or raise the brightness. what laptop have you got?

It's an ACer aspire 1310; 12 months old.
Thanks for your suggestion, farmboy, I've tried it but it seems to have no effect.

click start, help, and type in monitor settings, and have a look there. I should imagine you should be able to adjust the brightness without downloading anything.

What graphics card do you have installed?
If you have a Geforce card then you should be able to go into the monitor settings and change them. My TFT monitor was too bright and reduced it by this method.

Thank you both; I've solved it! On my laptop it's hold down Fn aand press F2 to brighten or F1 to darken. It was farmboy who gave me the clue.
