make text move on show layer

Hi, trying to make text (actually a list of links) below a layer move down when the layer is shown.

The layer is shown when the link immediately above it is clicked.

Works in IE, of course, because its rendering of "overflow:visible" is wrong, but how do I make the desired effect work in other browsers?

I'm sure it's really simple, but have wasted so much time trawling through javascript forum sites...

I'm using an edited MM function---

function MM_showHideLayers() { //v6.0
var i,p,v,obj,args=MM_showHideLayers.arguments;
for (i=0; i (args.length-2); i+=3) if ((obj=MM_findObj(args[i]))!=null) { v=args[i+2];
if (obj.style) { obj=obj.style; v=(v=='show')?'visible':(v=='hide')?'hidden':v; }
obj.visibility=v;
obj.overflow=v;
}
}

and in the CSS-------

#Layer2, #Layer3, #Layer4, #Layer5 {
visibility: hidden;
padding: 5px;
font-weight: normal;
overflow: hidden;
height: 1px;
}

I haven't yet put in the stuff to chack for IE 5, and use display: none, but have the above CSS in a stylesheet that is only loaded if javascript is enabled, so non-java viewers see the layers at all times.

...and thanks for that css website - added to my faves!
