lsass.exe startup problem

When I start up Windows XP Professional, just before the login screen would appear I get the error:

lsass.exe-unable to locate component; This application has failed to start because SAMSRV.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

I cannot start up in safe mode (same problem) or any other options when pressing F8.

How can I fix this?

Firstly I would download the missing dll file. You can get this from here click here .When you have done that see if it has repaired your problem , if not post back .
PS The file you are looking for should be in the middle of the screen from my link.

There are two versions on the site you gave, which one do I use?

I've managed to replace the files and have come down to the real problem. My hard disk is failing.

Thanks for the help
