Low memory for swapping files?

  Pier1 20:08 13 May 03

I'm trying to install MS Flight Sim 2002 on my Celeron 400MHz, 288Mb RAM, 60GB HDD computer with Win98SE.

After a bit of "Copying files..." I get a message saying there was a propblem extracting a file and a cause could be not enough memory for swapping files or a corrupted file.

I don't think it's a corrupted file because it's on a CD, which incidentally is pristine, no scratches or anything.

So I presume it may be the memory, but I have 288Mb!

I had a look at TaskInfo2002 and it states that I have 220Mb of locked memory - what does this mean and does it have anything to do with my problem?

win98 does benefit from using a memory manager, maybe that could help with your problem.

i use 'cacheman' click here it sorted out my RAM problems.

thanx, I might try it.

Do you know, however, anything about memory and what 'locked' means?

i don't sorry, but im sure someone will enlighten us soon.

is it only 'locked' when you try and install the game, or is it like that from start-up.

i remember seeing lots of MSknowledgeBase articles about this game,i'll see if this is a known problem.
