Low level formatting is done by the manufacturer at the factory, not by the owner, 450223. Why do you want to LLF?

there is a Low Level Format option in some computer BIOSs but I don't think I would want to try it.

Like MAJ says it is done by the manufacturer, so why do you want to LLF?

I suspect what you are looking for is the Zero fill utility this is now regarded as a low level format but it is actually a medium level format, useful for recoving sectors Windows marks as bad and good for bringingthe drives health back to an "as new" state. These are hard drive specific and each hard drive manufacturer offers there own.
