Loudspeaker icon disappears from Notification Area

The Loudspeaker Icon keeps disappearing from the Notification Area whenever I reboot.
In Control Panel, Sounds and Audio devices, "Place Volume Icon in the Taskbar" is ticked and in the Taskbar Properties I have set it to "Always Show"
The Icon still vanishes when I reboot.

Hi Douglas

This is a symptom of the general problem click here
With the volume icon specifically, try unchecking "Place vol icon...." and OKing it, then rechecking it. Often I find this dance step re places the icon by the clock. This is not anything to do with "Hide Inactive icons" but a long standing issue/irritation with XP, to do with loading up resources.
