Lost WAV Files

I seemed to have lost the ability to open my WAV sound files. I partly uninstalled my Creative Sound Blaster programme, so after a re-boot, reinstalled it. Could this have corrupted all my sound files? In Windows Explorer, everything is there except the extension .wav. When I double click the file, it simply reports that it is unable to open the file. Am I able to recover these files? Can someone throw some light on the problem - I have hours of music that I would not like to lose.

System restore to before your problem might do the trick

Which player do you use to play the music, only you may have lost the association.
