Always accessed Safe Mode by F8
Now it has disappeared!
Tried reinstalling ME but to no avail.

Try holding down CTRL and rebooting (keeping CTRL pressed).

Continually pressing F5 will take you straight into safe mode.

Thanx VoG & spikeychris,
Tried them both, they don`t work...
Any more ideas please..

Use MSConfig, go to the General tab, click the Advanced button and check the
box "Enable Startup Menu". When you next boot your system you will then
automatically be present with a menu where you can choose whether to start in
normal or safe mode as required.

Thanx again & again Spikeychris

It now becomes too complex for a bald silver surfer!

It is a registery problem which requires me to reinstall Windows98. Unfortunately my WindowsME is an update to 98 and I have to uninstall ME before I can update 98! This is a problem...

regards,
John

John, don't understand, why have you got to update 98?

  johnck 15:33 21 Jun 03

Having lost myself in the Microsoft support items which are a bit beyond my ferreting out the applicable items, I did read if this fails reinstall windows98. There seemed no end of reasons from hardware failures etc. etc.hence my remarks.
Thanks for your time Charles, I reckon I will live without Safe Mode meantime. If the ultimate failure occurs then I can start from scratch!
Regards,
John
