I loaded a Bluetooth program with a mini disk in my CD drive. All went well. Now find that I cannot open the drive to remove disk nor is drive shown in my computer. Any ideas please.

Have you rebooted your machine? When it's booting back up if you keep trying the eject button your tray will open

No CD/DVD or CD-ROM access is missing error Code 19, Code 31, Code 32, Code 39, or Code 41
Try this if the optical drives are not appearing in My Computer or Device Manager.
(This is sometimes caused by the removal of Roxio or other writing software.)

Download XP_CD-DVD-Fix.zip and save this file to your hard drive. Navigate to where you saved it and double click the file to extract the contents. Locate the EXE file you extracted and double click it. A confirmation dialog will appear when the script is done. You may need to reboot for the change to take effect.

You may need Administrator level access to use this utility. If you do not have Administrator level access, the program will say it is finished, but will not have made any changes.

Run regedit and navigate to registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
Highlight it and in the right pane, find the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values.
Highlight each one in turn, right click and delete them.
Close regedit and restart the computer.
If in doubt make a restore point before making changes.

Baboon - will try, thanks.
Fruit Bat - will try these if Baboon's method doesn't work. Thanks.

Baboon - no success I'm afraid.
Fruit Bat - tried your two downloads but to no effect.
Tried what I should have done before - system restore but no good either.
Will try editing registry as suggested. Wish me luck.

Should be a pinhole below the drawer that you can put a straightened paper clip into to manually open the drawer. Could be a problem with the mini disk so removing that will at least prevent it interfering with your system.

Fruit Bat - have edited registry as suggested and restarted but to no avail. Could it be hardware failure? Last resort before going to local guru (who is vg but charges!) is to turn everything off and unplug from mains.

Eureka. After restart found drive there (although now called Bluetooth driver but with correct letter). Opened, removed mini CD and back to normal. Thanks for trying but how on earth does this happen?

Pride before a fall. No sound from CD in either drive or trying to play *.wav files. Coincidence?

Tried another system restore back to 2008 - which failed - but in process sound came back, don't know why but don't care!
