Lost all sound

I was having sound problems with my creative sound card so uninstalled and removed the card from pc. Then went into BIOS and enabled on board sound but when I try to listen to anything there is nothing. A notice comes up saying no audio device found. In sound devices there are none listed either.
Anyone figure where on board sound has gone?
Thanks

In device manager are there any yellow exclamation marks by audio devices.

No - all the onboard ones are shown as working fine.

Try reinstalling the drivers for the onboard sound device.

Thanks gudgulf. It usually is the obvious. Although you are probably right it has brought up another problem. Every time I try to install the drivers from cd it crashes pc and reboots. XP home. Still working on this.

Problem sorted. Letting XP find its own driver seemed to work. Can't explain the crashes though.
Thanks to everyone who helped.
