Lost all data on backup drive

Pc started saying that my backup (2nd) drive needed checking on startup. I let it do the checking on two restarts then on third startup I got message that the drive was not Formatted. Result is I lost 25 Gb of backups and files. Any ideas on what could have caused this?

faulty HD? Did you try the drive in another computer as the fault could be in the computer and not the drive.

Caronara a similar thing happened to me a while ago.

I never figured out what had happened but since then i always backup to an external drive and also to dvd's.

I hope you find out why it happened but sugest you don't put all your egg's in one basket from now on and cover yourself.

Best of luck solving your problem and i hope you have some of your stuff backed up elsewhere.

P.S the problem never reoccured and the drive is still working fine and the comp never showed any sign of this happening again

Thanks for the input, drive is re-formatted and seems like no problems with it!

Gandalf: probably answers your suggestion as well.
