Loss of memory, Maybe Chrome fault?

Just recently I have, a couple of times, had a pop-up informing me I was low on memory. I have had several tabs open in Chrome at the time. Task Manager shows 6 instances of chrome.exe32 running, even with only two tabs open, and still 4 instances with just the one tab open. Firefox only shows one instance of firefox.exe32 even with several tabs open. Is this Chrome using all my memory? System is Intel i5, 4Gb, Win7 64bit OS, that has been in use for about six months. Pop-up has only appeared since SP1, could be coincidence? I have run Memtest and it passed O.K.

Just found out on another forum that there is a Google task manager accessed with right click on the top bar. It shows all instances of chrome.exe and what they are open for, ie Flash etc. That is that explained, but not the memory availability loss. I will close this thread and perhaps re-post if further tests don't point me to the culprit.
