Losing preferred layout in IE6

(Have posted this before but nobody has yet come up with a fix so trying again!)

Using IE6.0.2800.1106xpsp2 on a Windows XP PC and lately whenever I restart my PC it does not retain my preferred browser layout (for toolbar postions, size of buttons etc) but resets to default. I thought closing the browser using shift+X (or shift+close) usually worked but that just seems to be working for current session. When I restart the PC its back to the defaults.

Can anyone tell me how I can make it retain my preferred browser settings?

Thanks

Have you locked the Toolbars after setting your preferences from Customise?

Yes, I've locked the toolbars. As I've said that keeps the settings for current session, but if I restart my PC it's back to the defaults.
