Looking into external hdd.. options?

im looking to get a standard 3.5in HDD and putting it into a caddy, while on this search ive come across something i havent seen before

a style thats like a card reader.. it would be useful as i could have multiple hdds an just pop each in as i need it, but again as ive never really come across it before is it a reliable product type? ie no case? dust issues? exposed hdd?

also with this i would probably get 1.5TB hdds but if the standard full enclosure is more appropriate i have to decide on the hdd more carefully, as it wont be hot swappable

any help/advice?

Its a hard drive docking station. I've seen them around for a while but have never used one.

A caddy allows interface of external hdd via usb to PC. Simple inteface. Why complicate with a docking station which a caddy is baisically?

i was thinking of the docking station because when i have more than one hdd i can still use the same caddy, if i have a full enclosure i have to buy an enclosure for each new hdd

was mainly interested in reliability etc..

will be using esata for connectivity
