Being made redundant next week. The place im working as a IT tech in is funded and the funds for my wages have dried up!

So until i get new employment i was going to do a few jobs on my own. To do this i need to advertise.

Any tips on the best way to go about this?

Thanks for you help!

Local Paper - VERY Expensive but can be run on a week to week basis.

Local Newsagents - 50p - £1 per week for an advert.

Local Ink Cartridge Place / PC Related Business - ask if they will display your ad and you'll hand out their cards.

Longer Term - Nothing beats Yellow Pages, Thompson, etc

See if you have a Local Listings site on the internet where you can pay a fee to be listed per month.

If it's only for a short time as you state, then the cheapest method whilst reaching the maximum potential number of customers is the way to go.

Cards in newsagents or other similar busy outlets represent good value along with local free newspapers (low advertising rates), but Yellow Pages and similar are very expensive and not really suited for your intended purpose.

Local small businesses.

A simple letter with a Business Card attached, posted to a selection of local small businesses.

Your Target Market would be those that are too small to have an IT specialist, so I would recommend the "Hand Holding" and "Assistance in Trouble". Too much Techie stuff scares the living daylights out of most of us.

That's how mine got hold of me, some times I don't see him for a year or so, but I'm typing this on one he built for me for £350.00.

Maybe knock up some flyers on your pc and do a leaflet drop of your local area?

Again thanks guys for your help. I ve got a few ideas from you now.

Im also thinking of putting an ad in the local paper. Any ideas on what to write? I'd be mainly upgrading and looking at internet connection problems.

Cheers.
