Every time I have logged of when i switch on again the machine wants to run a scan Why??

Have you let it complete the scan?

Somtimes you have to let the scan run fully or it will keep trying.

What OS you running?

What do you mean by logging off? Do you mean when you close down the computer? If you do then I presume you are new to pcs. If not please correct me. To close down click on start (if using XP click on red square a box will open with 3 choices You want the red square which says turn off, click on it and after a few seconds the pc will close down safely. Get back if I have got your question wrong. Which OS are you using. (if you just turn pc off by hitting the power switch you may damage pc.)The scan always runs if you have closed down wrongly.

sandisk thorough in safe mode and then do a defrag in safemode.
may be useful to do a chkdsk - depednig on windows version...
RESTART in DOS - and apply the CHKDSK /? parameters - the /f is very good.
As prev depends on o/s system
