.Log files - Can I delete?

XP Pro machine

Prompted to search my computer for a particular log file I was amazed how many there are dotted over the system. Are they necessary? For example :

In local settings\temp folder is OHotfix(00002)_Msi.log with a whopping 7.5 MB and there are 3 similar ones. In C:\windows security are 4 files each over 1 MB starting edb****.log.

Some of these file names appear in blue that suggests they may be different - what does that mean?

Are these files hogging space & can I delete them safely?

And nobody rescued me.

Here's a lifebelt - I always delete mine with no ill effects.Any that Windows needs or is using, it either won't allow you to delete or will recreate when required.

Anyone else have any advice before I do the deed?

If u'r not sure about deleting anything, why not back it up first, then delete it and then throw away the backup when all is OK? :o)
