Go into device manager right click on the network card and uninstall reboot computer

and let XP find the card and reinstall the correct driver

If still not working you might have a bad LAN card that need to be replaced

If card is build on the motherboard disable in the bios and install a new one in one of the

pci slot on motherboard

Glad to hear all back to normal enjoy

Most times the problems with the hardware not working is the driver just uninstall and reinstall

The only time I format a hard drive is when I first install the OS on a computer any other time is either repair the OS or System restore
