Have you got more than one partition in which case the cdrom is not drive d

During Setup windows creates a virtual HD making your CD drive letter E. Try this and see if it works.

pepe, betty_boo hasn't even got to windows setup yet.

Smiler...........yes but she still needs to access the cd rom from drive letter E. As she has tried D, she must have got beyond the stage where the vitual HD is created. Type E, press enter, then type setup.exe and all should be well.

Still getting "invalid drive specification" whenever i type in "E"

Best thing to do is watch the screen closely after selecting start with cdrom support. You will see loading mscdex.exe and shortly after the assignment of the drive letter.

Should you not enter the setup command at the A:\ prompt.

In your first post you said you could type d:\ and get to D:\>

At that stage type dir and see if it reads the CD in the drive.

You should be typing D: without the backslash and then setup.

there is no need to input the CD Drive letter as windows locates it itself during the setup checks
