I have recently had a crash, I have now got windows working again but minus many functions. I do not have the Win98 disk for this laptop so I am considering reformatting the hard drive and loading Windows98 from an upgrade disk I have from my desktop. Do I have to load Win95 first and then upgrade or can I load direct from the upgrade disk.

Install 95 first.

hi ronm.....
as long as you have the 95 disk to insert when asked for by the upgrade disk, there is no need to install 95.
that is ,if your 98 is second edition,i'm not 100% sure but i think 98 first edition still required dos files to be loaded first ....but i could be wrong on that bit .

Agree with Graham ®.

The upgrade disk won't work unless it detects a Windows operating system.

hi vog ....
i beg to differ .....as long as he has the 95 disk and inserts it when the upgrade disk asks for it ,it will quite happily install .
i have done this on numerous occasions, without problem, with win 98 se.
