Loading programme from DVD

I got message Error from file D\data\Serif_PCA100K\thumbs.hta. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.
I tried to instal another programme from a Cdrom unsucessfully. I checked Error Log in Windows and it shows 13 April Cdrom This device,\Device\CdRom0 has a bad block. Does this mean the DVD/CDRom is faulty. It appears to be operating properly when I use it to recover information on previously recorded disks but for some reason it will not instal programmes.
Any information would be appreciated. The O.S. is Windows XP Home fully up to date. The DVD/CDrom is a Sony combined unit.
Thanks JF

It may look clean, but try cleaning the disk with strokes from the centre of the disk to the outside edge. Using a circular motion will clog the disk even more.
