Earlier today I managed to list my Recycled bin using DIR in Command.com, and trimming the directory name to a DOS 8.3 - i.e. s-1-5p~1.

But now when I go to repeat the feat I always get FILE NOT FOUND. (it lives on my F: drive in a directory RECYCLER, but I cannot access RECYCLER with CD, Dir etc.).

Cna any one tell me how to get this - I need the listing as input to a QBASIC program.

You are not going to get short DOS names to work in windows XP as you do in Win98se as it does not use DOS

many thanks for responding. I knew that I had got a listing this morning - your reply sent me back to try again. DIR F:\RECYCLER\s-1-5-~1 >aasd puts the listing into aasd and I can access it in WordPad. So I've solved that problem. (Now what happends when I try to SHELL out of a DFOS prog??!!??)

Many thanks again

PeterC :-)
