Linux to WindowsXP

I have an XPPro Lap networked to a SUSE9.2 Linux server running SAMBA3. I can do backups to the server and see all the shared folders on that machine.

I cannot get from the server to laptop. When I type in the addr. eg. 192.168.0.x it just hangs and comes back with 'not responding'.

I have to turn off the linux firewall anyway as this stops any comms., so that's off.

Any ideas?

Did you enter the address as "s m b : / / 192.168.0.x" (without the spaces which prevent the forum software playing silly beggars with URLs) and have you also configured the XP Laptop's firewall to allow access to the Linux PC's IP address?

Additionally, you might need to add the "share" name (as entered in the Sharing & Security Properties) of a shared folder to the path, as in:

s m b : / / 192.168.0.x/documents
