I have tried a few linux .software that .but the main problem with the systems I have tried is poor fonts. the writting is not clear .and it fades in sections ..could it be I need a better graphics card .though win 98 is ok on the same hard disk .and is perfect .. has anyone else had this poor lettering on linux .I have tried various resolutions .. but no// ..star office went on ok/ by the way

it could be the distribution you are trying
my graphics card is just an ati7500 and my fonts are fine
in redhat9 but i had a few niggles with the fonts in suse

On Mandrake 8.1 they was jaggy on my computer

The fonts in the modern distros are much better than they used to be - I run Mandrake 9.1 and Slackware 9.0 and the fonts in both are nicely anti-aliased and at least as good as Windows.

thanks it is suse// I had the trouble with it is a shame really ,maybe they have got it right on the latest/ I was using prof 7.2 .(did you try star office on it ?).there is a linux version ..
