I have just purchase a Lynsky WPS54GU2 wireless print server. The instructions start by telling me to plug one lead into the router and the other end into the print server. I intend this to be wireless in a differrent location to my router so do I just ignore this part

No you will need to setup the wireless in the printserver the same as you do with the router, then it can be disconnected.
If you have encryption you will need to enter the key before the wireless will work.

I can`t plug one end into print server and the other into the router because I then have to plug the printer into it and my printer is in a different location to my router

If you cannot plug the print sever into the router, you should be able to plug it directly into the PC's ethernet port to perform the initial configuration.

Also, can you not configure the Print Server's *wireless* settings without having the printer attached? Then with the wireless connection running, the printer can be set up.
