linksys wirless router and belkin usb problems

I'm using a linksys 54g wirless router with a belkin usb adapter on my desktop. I know it is only petty but I am unsure why it won't connect upon startup, the solution was simple: repair the connection.

The error message says invalid ip address. I am using the router connected to NTL in the same room as well as 128 encryption of WEP.

I have searched for updates and I wondered if anyone else has the same problem.

Do you have a NTL Modem or settop box.
I am running a Linksys rWireless router direct to my settop box with RJ45, a friend of mine has NTL modem and that has both RJ45 and USB. can you connect to the router with RJ45 lead which will be better than USB anyway.
