linksys configuration problem

i just changed my adsl modem from one linksys model (BEFDSR41W) which was great but died on me after a successful 4 years for a spanking new linksys modem, the WAG54GS. it set up a dream but i am having great difficulties with the settings.

basically the problem is that my adsl connection, which ran perfectly thru the old modem at 2.6 Mps downstream and 0.6 Mps upstream now only goes at a strange 0.1 Mps down and 0.4 Mps up.

now i know that the upstream is usually only 25% of the downstream speed, and so i should easily expect a 2+ downstream to correspond with the upstream speed that im getting.

file transfer thru msn goes lighting fast downstream. and emails fire away quickly too.

no doubt this is down to one of the myriad of settings within the modem firewall or the linksys itself.

but what settings would make internet explorer crawl downstream, but be okay upstream? can anyone shed any light on this, or anyone have this model of gateway can give me a hint to the settings.

i use BT for my isp, and the settings they provided are correct, and everything looks the same as on my old gateway.

thanks in advance for this.
