Links to Microsoft

which are converted into 'click here' often don't work! Like many, I copy from the address window and paste into a thread response. When you click on one, it doesn't take you to the desired place and the 'click here' is followed by the rest of the address.(Keep up at the back!)

What I am asking for is the easiest way to transfer the address from my screen to the response box.

The easiest way is like click here

which is http: //support.microsoft.com/?kbid=302796 without the space before //

I have a notepad (.txt) file that just contains http: //support.microsoft.com/?kbid= (without the space) to which I add the actual number, then copy and paste.

http: //support. microsoft. com/support/kb/articles/q***/*/**.asp

Or if your in a hurry copy the entire address put it in here click here and copy and paste the shorter link into your post.

Or if you get a Click Here followed by the end bit just do the click here (you'll get an error) then copy the end bit onto the end of the URL in the new window and hit the Go button.

Did that make sense??

I need a blinking lesson in that, I'm always botching it up, so you must have posted this thread for my benefit.

Thanks

Paul.

Thanks, just what was wanted. 3 options to go forward for the speed trials! I'll leave it open overnight.

OK Slight variation.

If you get a Click Here followed by the end bit...

1) Highlight the end bit, right click and select Copy.

2) Click the Click Here and then when the new window opens Paste the end bit onto the URL in the window that opened.

3) Hit Go...

'flecc' did give a lesson in this click here

  VoG II 22:26 20 Jul 03

However, with people for whom links do not work then don't click here but the following

http:// support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679

Copy this, paste into address bar, remove the space after // and click Go.

Follow the instructions.

Or

1) Open an new IE window (or browser of your choice)

2) Right click the Click Here and select Copy Shortcut

3) Paste the clipboard contents to the Address Bar in the new browser window

4) Highlight the end bit, right click and select Copy

5) Paste the end bit onto the URL in the window that opened

6) Hit Go...
