link problem

when I click the "Office Family" link in Windows Update (Win XP Home)and other links on various websites, I often get the following:
* a Microsoft IE tab appear on the taskbar
* the bottom item in "Favourites List" highlighted and
* the hourglass pointer appear f o r e v e r m o r e on the main page.
So I cannot make the link. Any ideas, anyone?

Thanks for the suggestion - tried the fixes for XP - neither worked. Even your link didn't work - had to type web address in manually.

It seems that you have a problem with links that might be cured if you look at the following website

I have put a space after // to stop it turning into a "click here". You will need to delete that space to access the site.
