One or two have already suffered from storms affecting their PC's. If you are on a phone line fed from a pole, or overhead electricity, or both, unplug if you're in the line of fire.

Once you see a flash or hear thunder it may be too late.

Get a surge protected adapter, its supposed to keep all electricals safe in a storm or if power is tripped.

A good surge protector should offer four features.

1. The surge protector should cover lightning strikes. SOME DO NOT.
2. The surge protector should offer insurance to cover the loss of properly attached equipment.
3. If you have a regular modem, get a surge protector with an R-11 telephone jack where you can hook up your telephone line.
4. If you are using a cable modem, get a surge protector which will also accommodate your television/Internet cable.

While these statements should be observed for those who want to rely on surge protection i think that unpluging is still the safest option, Better to be safe than sorry..
