Light blue Windows SFC check screen disappeared!

  wotbus@ 13:18 05 Jul 06

I know it's in there somewhere ;-)
Windows XP Home. Normally, LOL, when a System File Check is scheduled after re-boot, one is presented with the pale blue/white writing screen informing one the SFC has been scheduled and to press any key within [*] seconds if not required.
My screen stays black! The HDD chatters away so I assume it is doing it's thing, then some time after the bootup occurs.
Not really essential but I would like my screen back. Any idea's please..

Are you confusing sfc /scannow with chkdsk /f

  wotbus@ 15:16 05 Jul 06

I am referring to My PC / Local Disc [C] / Tools / Error Checking / Check now. PC has to be re-started and I used to be greeted with the pale blue screen with white lettering [as outlined in my post].

OK, then run a system file check first go to Start/Run/type sfc /scannow (watch the space between sfc and /)you will need your XP CD

cheers rawprawn, I'll give it try.

Sorry wotbus@, I am at a loss. Maybe someone else can help, perhaps your HDD is comming to it's end, but I don't know. Good luck.

Hi VoG™. I had a look at the reg value on the link and the GinaDLL it refers to isn't present in the reg - neither is the Msgina.dll?
Could be on the right track though as I recall doing the mod to bypass the LogIn screen but that was some time ago. On the subject of 3rd party programs, I have recently un-installed Ashampoo PowerUp trial version! but I would have thought any missing .dll's would have been replaced when I did the sfc scannow test just now.
