Lexmark Z42 Vista Driver

  vondreele 03:05 07 Aug 08

When I got my Vista laptop it recognized my Z42 printer but a couple of weeks ago Vista did an 'upgrade' that discontiued the connection.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can get my Z42 back with Vista?

Uninstall the printer drivers from programmes and features.

It would seem that your printer is not compatible with Vista:

You could try downloading from the USA site:

Try the WIndows 2000 Driver, it might work, but the z42 is not Vista compatible, and has been discontinued.

Vista has been/is a disaster for older peripherals because of the driver requirements and the unwillingess of manufacturers to spend resources updating drivers for equipment they would prefer you to junk and replace.

There are two chances that you may get away with something.
Chance 1
Go to Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Compatability Wizard and reset the system to XP or even 98.
Chance 2.
Go start/Printers and Faxes/Add a printer
When the wizard starts -take - 'Select from list'
Select Manufacturer then select the model .
If the exact model does not come up select the nearest in the series[In this case 'Z'] see what happens
