Legitimate Pop-ups

When I am browsing on the web and I want to pursue a subject which interests me and I click on a link (e.g. something to do with further instructions)- I get a blank pop-up, which may take one of two forms:
a. Completely blank
b. Address space available but no address in the bar. If I copy the link address (and that is not always available) then I usually get the information I need.
Can anybody help?

If you have a fairly recent copy of XP installed try making sure that you have Java installed from Sun Microsystems. Later versions of XP had to leave it out and it may be that the "pop-ups" you want to see are in fact java applets which you wont see as you wont have java.
