Just a quick query - what's a "software sunset policy"?

  Fruit Bat /\0/\ 18:51 01 Jun 08

Definition: A sunset policy is the policy and terms for phasing out support for older financial software. This does not always mean the software will no longer function, although Internet-based features and data downloads may cease to work. Technical support is no longer available for software that is dated past the date set by the sunset policy.
Also Known As: Planned Obsolescence, Policy of Planned Obsolescence, Internet Services Policy, Retiring Software

It seems that Programs like Quickbooks have their devotees and Quickbooks is making sure the company doesn't lose when the program is next re-written and cannot simply update existing versions.
