Last good known configuration help please.

I have been advised to Last good known configuration in XP after installing an update to Norton Personal Firewall 2003, which caused a start-up problem with AVG and Norton.

I have also been advised to remove these programs fully, but this would be lengthy, I have tried system restore but this does not stop my PC from not shutting down. This has only started since I have installed the update, I have posted on this but I thought starting another thread on this would be eaisier as it is a slightly different subject.

Can anyone help me with Last good known configuration, will it just remove the Norton Update? What exactly does this feature do?

It is supposed to be the last time that Windows booted up correctly but in my experience it never works (other members may have different views!!). As madboy asks why will it uninstalling be lengthy?

Installing them again will be, settings, etc...

Ok, maybe uninstall then.
