Recently brought a second hand laptop and its decided to test my patience.

Its running windows 95 and boots up ok then windows 95 screen flashes up for few seconds then blank screen comes up and says:
Sony Atapi CDROM
No drives are attached, or devices are powered down.
Device Driver is not installed.
C:\>c:\dev\mscdex.exe /D; mscd000 /v/ M:12

Device driver not found 'MSCD000'

No valid cdrom device drivers selected.

the floppy disk drive is broke and ive brought a external drive. being a novice to laptops i car'nt get to everything and with it being seconh hand i have no instructions or disk for drivers and stuff.

Is there anything i can do 2 test the cd drive is working or is it the driver for it and how can i install the drivers without cd rom.

Please help i'd me much appricated.

Try changing the boot up options in the bios to CDROM first, and place the OS cd in the drive to see if it boots fron that. From there you can re-install the OS if required.
