Laptop won't connect to wireless network

Happy Christmas everyone :)

Apologies for the completely clueless post but I'd really appreciate some help.

We have a PC connected to Virgin Media broadband, and a wireless router. Up until our laptop died we were able to access the internet on it via the wireless network. Hubby has now brought home his work laptop and we just can't get it to connect wirelessly.

The laptop can see the wireless network and says it's renewing the IP address, but it never finds the IP address and we can't access the internet. We've done all the turning things on and off again stuff and we're stuck now :( The annoying thing is that hubby has brought this laptop home before and we've had no problems with it.

If someone could advise us of what the problem might be I'd be ever so grateful.

Apologies again for being so clueless!

Thanks :)

Not sure which OS you are using , but if you delete the profile you have stored for your home network from the laptop then try reconnecting so the OS asks for the password again that quite often resolves the problem . Make doubly sure that the WEP or WPA/2 key is correctly entered , it will be case sensitive . Also try temporarily disabling the laptop's firewall just in case it is causing a problem .

You need to put the Encryption Key into Settings in the Laptop as also the SSID. You get these from the Wireless Router Using the Browser that you use like IE. You have to type into the Web Browser address bar the correct address for the Router that you have. it may be 192.168.1.1 then press enter then put the password in it may be "admin" without quotes

If you get these, go to Control Panel and choose Networking and look for new connection
