Laptop will not defrag

  morris948 10:26 15 Mar 05

I have an IBM T23 laptop 30Gb drive partitioned as 15Gb C:drive and 15Gb D: drive.

C: drive has 60% free space and has the Win2000 OS loaded.

D: drive has 28% free space, and is for storing data.

the D: drive has around 50% fragmentation, and when i defraged it,it completed, but all the fragmented(red) files just appeared as solid red blocks and wont turn blue.
i have repeated the operation several times but cant get the files to turn blue.
C: drive defraged OK, any suggestions as to how i can sort this out.

There may not be enough spare space on the D: drive for a complete defragmentation, depending on file sizes, etc.

Move some folders to the C: drive, defrag what is left then move them back. Moving the files back to a defragged drive will automatically defrag them.

some system files cannot be defragged, check the screen that tells you what the colours mean
