hi,
i am thinking of using my laptop connected to my tv by hdmi cable as a dvd player. Is there any reason why this would either reduce play quality or not be a good idea? I seem to have a limited number of 'region changes' available - any way of overriding this. Also is it poss to turn off laptoptop screen when doing this to conserve power. Many thanks, Will

My laptop automatically switches off the screen when I choose hdmi output to tv. I do have to set the sound to hdmi out put before I start or I get no sound on the TV.

yes its fine to use your laptop to stream to your tv, i use mine for everything including bigger screen for os and watching video, but if you can id suggest making sure your hdmi cable is gold tipped as there better quality, and if you dont currently use one if your intending running your laptop alot watching video which is power hungry i would invest in a netbook cooler or over time you will fry your cpu.
