Laptop turns off randomly while charging.

I've had charging problems with my laptop for a while. I'd have to wriggle the connector around in the port for it to charge. It gradually got worse, with me having to move it around in the port more and more before it'd start charging. Over the past couple of days, my laptop has suddenly been turning off while the charger is connected, and I've noticed a smell coming from the laptop while the charger is connected and before it turns off. I'm currently using it without the charger connected, and it's working fine. I've ran HWMonitor on my laptop, and there's been no signs of it overheating.

So, does anybody have any idea what the exact problem may be? I'm guessing it's something to do with either the port or the charger, but I'm not sure.

Id say that wriggling the connector has broken it inside.

Thanks for the response. I'm going to give PC Specialist a ring tomorrow, as it's one of their laptops. I'm sure they'll replace the connector for me at a cost. No idea how much it'll cost though. Hopefully not too much.

For what it's worth.

Many Lappies have the power socket soldered onto the MOBO.

We have seen reports that make repairs unviable

Almost a certainty that the problem is a broken Power Socket. Replacing the power socket is not particularly difficult on most laptops. Usual cost is around £70-80 as it requires the laptop to be opened up and usually for the motherboard to be removed for access to the soldered joints. Can take about an hour and a half on most laptops.

If you are anywhere near Bradford I can recommend a good local guy.
