After reading a thread on here i downloaded Giant Spyware. Problem is now i think about it it seems since downloading it my laptop kept freezing ? Screen would go blank but still be on, to turn off, hold down power button for a few seconds then would go off. On restart would go through scan disk and hey presto, until it happened again! Even ran diskeeper, spybot, ad-aware & avg, reported no probs. Problem is now it will not switch on, press on button thinks for a second then shuts down. No hard disk sound etc, just silence! Dell C600 running on ME. Bit thick on all this, any help or have i well and truly broke it. Thankyou..

I am no expert, despite my title, but I would suggest leaving it off for at least half-an-hour then trying again. If it starts then I would suggest doing a System Restore. Gook luck.

This may work as it does with Win98se start with a Win98se disc from click here tenth file from top, put a Floppy disc in comp and double click the download then start with disc and at A:\ type SCANREG RESTORE press enter. Put an old date back before the problem

thanks, did try leaving but to no avail, so in my wisdom just sat using desktop to log on here and read what you guys had said, while also pressing the on button till laptop came on, which it did to active desktop then froze, turned off then kept on trying till it started again, this time it did a disk scan then got a bit further along before it froze. Still does not turn on straight away, oh and as i said i am a bit thick how do you do a system restore ?

System Restore

Start, Run, type in

C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

and click OK.

Problem is he cannot get that far.

He could try Safe Mode, Keep pressing F8 as your computer starts up and choose Safe Mode, then if you can get into Windows follow VoG™ Advice above

just tried again, comp started pressed F8 and went into safe mode, scan disk ran and finished then went smallish blue screen with:

An error has occured. To continue:
Press Enter to return to Windows, or
Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart your computer. If you do this, you will lose any unsaved info in all open applications.
Error: 0D : F000 : 00007F50
Press any key to continue

But it just froze again !
By the way this system restore, what is it ? what will it ? how ?
Thankyou..

It puts your computer back to when it was working OK. unless there is something else amiss. try it through safe mode. you have to restore a date before you tried the installing above problem

Thankyou all very much !!
Finally got as far as system restore in safe mode, that is now done and laptop is working, just another quicky, is there a way of telling how hot it is running, program etc as i know this is not too good for it, is it ? In case your wondering why, just seems to be running hot to me, but as i said not too bright with these things yet. Thanks again..
