Laptop and TFT monitor resolution

I have searched for this but am getting conflicting answers.

I have a laptop with a Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Adapter (128mb memory Size). Max resolution on laptop is 1280 x 800 60HZ (listing all modes also shows this as the max res).

I want to buy a 19 or 20 inch TFT screen. Most are at higher resolutions than this - will I be able to run these screens from my laptop? I am not a gamer - just business and graphics work.

Some people say it will only run the monitors at the same res as the laptop, but others say this chip will support higher res (even though it says it doesn't).

I am somehwat baffled - any help much appreciated.

your laptop will have no problems with higher resolutions, as long as you are not playing fast games.

While it is listing all modes for your laptop screen, if you connect another monitor, it will change the available listing too.
