Laptop specs?

If a laptop is fitted with a firewire socket does that mean it is OK for editing video from a mini dv camera? They will only be shortish projects but can it be assumed that the laptop will be up to the job? My point is why have a firewire if not?

"why have a firewire if not?"

to see your cam corder pictuers on screen.

SIW click here will tell you what specs you have.
for video editing you need fast CPU large drive and plenty of memory.

"to see your cam corder pictuers on screen" yes but would that mean they are been captured of edit purposes. Clicked on the link but not sure of the relevance!

Been doing a bit of surfing and it would seem that a lot of people are using older laptops for video editing. So with windows 7 been no so greedy on resources this would seem a step forward. Any ideas?
