Laptop sound problem

I'm posting this query on behalf of a friend.

The machine is an Advent 7011 with P4 2.4 processor.

The problem is that when playing music or videos with Media Player, or playing DVDs with Power DVD, the sound is so low that it is almost impossible to hear. The normal Windows sounds are fine (almost deafen you). All the settings we can find are set to max.

I regret that I don't know what the sound system is.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Enter into the configuration part of Power DVD and under the audio part click ADVANCED then MISCELLANEOUS - then click NOISY ENVIRONEMNT.

Thanks TOMMO01, I'll pass that on and see what happens.

Thanks again for your help.
