Most laptops have a function key "Fnc" normally down by the left Alt key.

One of your F numbers will have a little screen printed on it (blue in colour) same as the Fnc key.

Have tried holding down the function key and the F key (sorry can't remeber which one it is). This allows an external monitor to be attached and viewed.

i have replaced the screen but still no joy

Did that include backlight and invertor?

Check ribbon cable to screen at screen and motherboard.

Plug in an external monitor use the Fn + F? key to change to external monitor do you get any thing on an external monitor?
