Laptop screen marks - due to heat?

  Charlie Babbage 14:15 21 Nov 07

I have a laptop just 1 year old. It is used almost exclusively by my son who swears that he has not dropped it.

There are two blue 'slodges' on the screen, one quite large at the bottom and a smaller one on the right hand side. You can just see the larger mark even when the laptop is turned off.

Unfortunately, my son has had a bad habit of leaving the laptop turned on all night despite repeated requests to turn it off! I picked it up last night and found it was quite hot. I'm wondering if it could be the heat which has affected the screen?

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

You should enquire to see if the laptop has been near any strong magnets like stereo speakers, in some cases this can cause this as well. I have mad a similar but not the same mistake as what you have discribed.

As to the heat I can not see this being the cause of your screen.

Hope this is helpful

Another possibility.

Has something accidentally been shut in the laptop.

This can of course mark the screen, even if it has only been half closed, before realizing something is in there.

Just a thought.
