Laptop screen failure

My Samsung R700 laptop has failed. On boot up, instead of the Samsung logo during bios set up, I am getting a screenful of coloured vertical bars which persist until Windows loads in. The screen then goes blank and nothing I do will get a display up. I can hear windows loading by the normal jingle so it would appear to be screen failure of some sort. It is under warranty and will go back, but am interested to hear if anyone can suggest what the problem might be.

Normally something to do with the graphics. If still under warranty that may be you best bet.

Can you start in safe mode? (tap the F8 key as the machine boots)

If you get display then it's probably a graphics hardware or driver issue.

If not, then return for repair...Faulty LCD screen most likely.

f8 has no effect which suggests a faulty lcd screen. Thanks for responses.
